Last Blog

Sorry I haven't written in a while. Sorry to say this will be my last blog... from now on you can see my travel updates on Facebook (one less thing to log onto in my busy life! :). I'll do my best to keep it updated! If you're not already my friend on Facebook, look me up under Carrol Ohlsen (Carrol Avara).

After leaving Kansas, I drove to South Dakota. Got all of my routine medical stuff done (everything is A-OK) - haven't seen the psychiatrist yet though :) - will make that appt. in about 10 years - maybe longer! Got to see family on Garry's side there - always great to see them. Stayed a couple of nights with friends in Nebraska then stopped in Missouri to see a cousin on my mother's side. Traveled to Illinois to see my oldest son and his girlfriend - as well as the grandsons I hung out with this summer again.

The trek to North Carolina was pleasant - smooth with no major problems. Having a terrific time with my daughter and her family in North Carolina. Love getting to spend quality time with the grandson! Shopping, eating, family outings - my daughter has me walking 8 miles/week! Should do more...

Love to all! Hope to see you on Facebook! Check out my FB profile picture soon - you can see my scary Halloween face!

Well its been a month to the day sense I last posted. Been not real busy but a little lax in getting on line to connect with all 4 of you. But with tech. I've been chatten on other media. I left KS the 5th of sept. got to Sioux Falls, SD in one day and was met with family. My brother n law and most of his kids and grandkids were there, due to the holliday weekend. The last time I saw them was a year ago when I went to my sister n laws funeral service.
Had lunch dates almost every day while there to see several people. while there I made phone calls to set up DR. apt's to get my yearly medical stuff done. Got to Prairie Retreat and I had a couple good weather days to go through some of our stuff that has been in storage for 10 years, YES I said 10 years. Had the good luck of setting up for a couple days to get rid of things that was not to be passed to kids or keep. It was wierd going through stuff. Still need to resort and condense small as I can.
Church yesterday was very enlightning. There was a pot luck after and it was good to see the members again. Spent the afternoon calling on some friends that don't go to my Church. Went to see a friend that lost her spouce, my husband's best friend. She is doing as well as she could, busy helping her daughter's family, which includes a brand new baby, which is the circle of life. RIGHT. She is a cutie that's for sure.
Today was the first of Dr. apt's for the week and thing's are good. Sure hope the rest of the apt's go as good. Met a hairdresser while selling stuff and she took more stuff off my hands this afternoon. Every little bit helps with my plan to get rid of everything that's not needed by me or my kids. Well that's about all for now, maybe will try to get back again sooner than a month. C

Hello, Yes I am still alive and breathing. Have been really busy this last 6 weeks. Had a great time with the grandsons. All too soon I had to return them back to ILL. to start school. I was thinking of keeping them and doin charter school, but I'm not smart enough.. Haven't done alot of anything else, just hanging out with my two son's, after they get off work and just hanging on the weekends that they don't have to work.
Having some motor home problems again. This time its the surge protector, not letting anything through, which is the purpose of the protector. Well its makin noises that its not sapose to.
Before taking the boys back, they did get to ride on a combine with a cuzzin, that showed them how it works and even tried to show them how to make wheat gum. They didn't get to far, they said they just swallowed it before it got chewee...
Well not much else so will close the hope all is well with everyone. Lov C

more adventures

While in Hemet CA. The boys and I went to a couple parks and went to see the movie 'The Karate Kid' it was done very good, it didn't take away from the original so that was good.. Same story line. My aunt volunteers at the local library in the genealogy section. The boys got to play games on the computers. I don't let them play online with games. ( mean Grandma). We went swimming on the hot days. I finally got in an it was so nice to relax. Found a Dino museum, they got to make a mold of a creature's claw. We left there the 14th. We then headed east to AZ. didn't see any family or friends but stayed at a nice campground, in fact it was so nice we stayed 2 nites. The pool was big and hardly anyone there. Got some laundry caught up. and long showers. Our motorhome showers are quick and conserving of the water.
We got into NM. on the17th and stopped to see an aunt and friends of the family for years. It was got there too. Sure glad we have air conditioning. Went bowling with my 88yr old aunt. We did have to be at the other end of the senior bowlers. The next day we went to white Sands, If you have never been, you should see it. I wouldn't go in the summer, its way too hot, at least that day was 106 and no shade. We rented round sleds for the boys to slide down the dunes. needed alot to water. Went to the gift shop. have been trying to get at least one thing from every state we go in, for the boy to remember. White sands was some sand that was still in the pockets of there pants and a dream catcher. It was so hot that we checked out the the AF base pool to cool off. They had a good time, slides, diving boards and other kids to connect with. That day was full day, with sand, water and then took in a movie 'Toy Story 3 in 3D. Its was cute. The boys kept asking how many miles till we get to their Dads and I was only checkin on one travel day at a time.
We left Alamogordo, NM. and headed to KS, got to go through a bit of TX, and OK before entering the family in the southern part of KS. We stayed a couple nites. They are busy with harvest this time of year, so didn't want to hold up farm progress. But the boys and I got to ride on a COMBINE, They were doing wheat. Got to push buttons, and check gages, we went a whole 2.2 miles per hour. Very interesting with the way they check the temp, and it so techie for farm equipment. My cuzzin showed them how to make gum from just cut wheat. They got tired of chewing and finally swallowed it. They didn't need to eat early that day. Back at the house they had a trampoline for the boys to ware off the energy and I even got on for a little while. They had neighbors come by with 2 kids about their age so that was good too. They may be getting tired of grandma 24/7. My cuzzin didn't get done that day till 1 am, that's the farmers life. The boy got to ride along the next day and they caught a jack rabbit and ask if they could bring it with. Sure!! The next morning before leaving, found out that during the nite, he escaped so not jack rabbit to take to Dads.
We left there and headed to their Dads and got there about the same day and just before he got off work. Alot of hugs and big smiles have been happening sense we got here. They have a pool in the little town they live so that is nice. I even went of the high dive and just discovered that I hit so hard on my u no what has a bruise.. about the size of my hand. They ask when I came up if I was OK. sure. Well that about all for now. Have plans to go and do different things the rest of the summer here, will try to keep you posted. Hope all will have a great 4th. We plan to. Happy Independence Day!!!!!!! Thank our VETS when you see them. till later C

3 of us now

I was in the high desert when the heat got up to 100 degrees. Trying to keep cool. My sister n law picked up a mister fan from Lowes. It works great, need to take the glasses off so I won't have to look through the water spots though.
I picked up the grandsons the 3rd and they have been a joy. They have gotten to ride a 4 wheeler, bikes, play pool, packman and air hocky. slept in different places every night while we were there. Went to a tiger preserve. It was a hot day and felt sorry for the tigers and other animals. They just hadn't put up the misters or sprinklers the last couple of days cuz the weather just started getting really hot . They also had other animals like lion, turtles, tortose, bobcats, horses, a deer, macaws, snakes. Its was really good to see them, hadn't expected a preserve in the middle of the high desert. Go figure.
This morning got the motorhome ready and hooked up the my like new Kar Kaddy and even a newely washed car. There wasn't any much traffic on our way to Hemet. Got there about an hour earlier than expected. My uncle helped me get backed in and hooked up. My aunt and uncle have a pool. So thats where we spent the next 3 hours. It was fun and I felt like goin in with the heat, but refrained for today. Maybe tomorrow. My uncle went to a meeting and we watched cartoon network till it was time to come out to the motorhome and watch more cartoons. Some of them are cute and some are really stupid.
Hope all is enjoying their summer if its not too hot. Some schools still have a few day left. Doin fine and hope all is doin the same. Well till my next blog. C

Still around

Well its been awhile for me to let everyone know what goin on with me.
Left Sacto the end of Apr. and headed to see my oldest Grandson. That was a great time. He grew taller, which was expected. Camped at a really nice campground by a stream, which was shallow enough to play and wade in. the two granddaughters really loved that part. They all are/were still in school so left and headed south to spend time with my husbands sister and family. They live in the high desert and its not as warm as you might expect, a couple days so far I've needed extra layers to keep warm.
I have been here almost a month and have had a chance to get things done that don't require to go anywhere. They have me set up like a campground with full hookups. My nephew is doin some work on my Kar Kaddy for me. Looking and saw that one of the lights were almost ready to fall off and one of the fenders has had a crack in it for awhile now. So now its feelin like a new one with everything greased/lubed and whatever was needed. It looks like a new one and I know its telling me thank you..
Just this morning I made arrangements to have 2 of my grandson fly out and spend the summer with me, goin here and there. They are 11 and 12 so this should be fun and exhausting at the same time. I guess I'll find out just how old I am after the summer. It will be nice to have riding companions for awhile.
A couple days ago I played canasta for the second time in my life, the first was about 4 years ago. Luckely the ladies were nice enough to walk me through it.. Got a couple new ringtones about a week ago and they're like no one else's. My youngest grandson sang me a song for my ringtone. Love it very much..
Lost a dear friend this week. and one is ill so my thought have been a little cloudy thinking of them and there family's.
Sorry its been while but not much has happened that was exciting to type about. Till next time Tell the ones you see. I love you, before they are no longer with us.

thank you for leaving me commits on my blog. Its good to know someone is interested.

Still in No.California

Well to get caught up... I had a good birthday, went shopping and then later to dinner with my Uncle. This Birthday was a confurming one. Started Medicare, not sure if I like that but regardless they will start taking $$$$$ out of my travel money. Not the reason I haven't left No. California. Have things to get done before I head out again.
Have been getting some yard work done. But not as much as I expected. The rain hasn't helped any at all, so while it was raining in CA. My aunt and I flew to CO. for 2 weeks. They had some snow but not enough to wish we hadn't gone. Had a good visit with family, alot of cuzzins. There was a 50th anniversary to go to and got to see more cuzzins and help celebrate the event with them. We got back from CO. the 30th and it was so good to sleep in my own bed. A couple days later I took my aunt to Stanford to have minor surgery, then spent a couple days with her to make sure all was well. Spent Easter with another cuzzin, they had good food and I don't turn down an invite for substanance (sp?) Got back to motorhome again for a couple days and then went to yet another cuzzins house to meet her granddaughter here on vaca from WI. Its was a good meeting and she's a pretty girl, just like all my family if I may say so..
Released a birthday balloon for my honey.. sure wish he would have been here to be with me longer. He would have been 63 on the 31st. So not to be cooped in motorhome I went shopping and found some cloths that I needed...
Went out to dinner, lunch, dinner on seperate days with family and friend. Went to the cemetery that family members are burried and had a long talk about missing them alot.
Got in touch with my granddaughters that will be spending a week with me. Can't wait to see them. Their both teenagers, so hopefully they will not be bored with grandma too soon. Not sure what they like to do. Only get to see them and other grandkids once a year and they do alot of changing in a year.
Today I got some stuff done that has needed to get done for awhile. It rained alot all day and the weather channel says it will be that way again tomorrow all day. Still have more to do but made a good dent in it today. The satelite will only get my mucsic due to the rain, no channels to watch anything. That may be the reason I got alot done today. Well enough of my rambleing, so will end for now. Please don't miss the chance to tell a loved one you love them... till next time C. Ps Not sure why the pictures arn't there will have to check on that.

pictures and yard work

I have a updated spain blog. you'll find some pictures that my daughter posted for me. I will find out how she did it and will be able to put some in other blog in the future. It sure is nice to have a computer savey person to help out this slow computer brain.
Still recovering from my surgery. Some of my forehead is still numb, (again no commit needed) and its healing good, but have a little problem with my eyebrow, hope it gets better or they will have to fix it. Its not real bad, but bad enough.
I really enjoyed watching the Olympics this year. One of the pre medel Hockey games I was jumping up and down and yelling at times. I was all by myself in the Motorhome and felt a little silly. I was invited to watch the medel game on sunday the 28th It was amazing. I normally don't watch sports except the Olympics and sport movies, so this was a exciting game for me.
I then spent a few days with a cuzzin and aunt. We had a good time catching up on stuff we all have been doing. We went to see our aunts kids/our cuzzins and even went to see a play. ( a little culture) They have a repatory theater in Sanoma and we saw "Guys and Dolls". During the week there were a few meals out and playing rummey made the days go by fast. Dropped off my cuzzin and stayed with her to celebrate her granddaughters birthday. the next day headed back to my motorhome. I needed a rest from the week and sure they did to.
I have so many cuzzins, I'm saying that kuz I then had cuzzins come and do some yard work that will make the water go somewhere else than my Dads back yard. It was a nice sunny day and good to get started with the water problem in the yard.
I have plans next week to fly to CO. to see more cuzzins, Yes I have boatloads of cuzzins and will write about that then. Thanks for the commits all of you have with my blog. Looking forward to reading more.

after getting back from spain

Well got to sleep early the night I got back from my trip. I had to be up early fri to be at the dermatologest by 0700. At 0730 they had me ready for the doctors. I had a spot on my forhead that tested positive for basil cell cancer. They numbed the area and started cutting. Didn't feel a thing. The nurses gave me warmed blankets to help me relax while they tested what they removed, they had to cut out a little more. They showed me the hole in my forehead and said they had to close it up now. They discussed making the stitches go up and down or sideways. they went up and down, so now have a 2 1/2 " scar that if my eyebrow doesn't go back to normal i will look angry on my left side.

Its a few days later and doing good. The area is numb and might be that way for up to a year according to the Drs.. Feeling some tingling so that makes me feel better that I'm feeling the healing happening. I did have a very colorful eye for the past week, which got me a few looks and a couple commits like, 'are you OK' and 'did I need any help'. It was very nice to know that if I'd needed it they would do what they could to help me. I was trying to come up with a good story for the shinner but nothing came to mind. I'm sure once I'm back to a normal color i'll think of a good story then.

Been watching the olympics alot. Watched curling for the first time and its almost like bowling but only one place to put your rock for points. Alot of sking which was wonderful, there is so many different events that it was so much fun watching even if the americans were in the top 10. It would be interesting to know all the events of the winter olympics, I'll have to look that up. The racing on the rink was amazing and hard to emagine how they stay goin around so fast without falling. The hocky game was amazing, I stayed up to watch it and was jumping up and down and yelling as well. Luckely no one could hear me.

Getting alot rain, rain, rain as well this last week. Hopefully today I will get some stuff done that I have been putting off for awhile. One of the things is to put some pict of my Spain trip to go with the blog. Hopefully I'll get it figured out, wish me luck. By the way thanks for reading my blog nonsense to the few that know I have a blog. haha

Back from Spain

Well I made it back but not without a hitch or two.

I go up the morning i was to leave and was a little nervice and wanted to get there even earlier than they want you to. Well that was good cuz I was at the wrong airline, they helped me to get the right gate. My cuzzin dropped me off and on the way the gas gage was flashing that it was getting thristy. so luckely i had some money in the ashtray for her to put enough in to get back home. I got on the plane and while setting there before it took off I started to tear up. A release or nerves or excitement or finally going so far away or what. Well then the plane took off and we landed in Denver with about a 3 hour layover but that relaxed me that I didn't have to hurry to the next gate, it was a ways to my next gate. Got on British Airways and they had tv's on the backs of the seat and these side things that came down so your head won't fall onto the person next to when you fall asleep. To me the food was good also. Landed in London about 9 hours later and got off the plane. Turned on my phone and guess what no signal, I thought I had that plan but NOOOOOO. Passed through the gates for checks and presenting my passport for the first time sence we went to norway 25 years ago. This time I was alone and no one to talk my nerviousness away. Made it fine and they heard my next flight was boarding for Malaga, spain. So didn't have anytime to get food or anything. landed in Malaga and went to get my luggage and NOT there, I wasn't the only one. This couple that came from KS didn't get theirs eather. We both went to lost luggage window and filled out a form. Went out the doors and my friends were there to great me. We reconized each other right away even after 25 years. We got on the bus and away we went talking the whole way. They live in Spain about 4 months a year and live in Norway the rest of the year. No car there so it was good that there transportation is good. That night we had supper in the Hotel dinning room and intertainment as we ate. The singer was very good and we danced after eating. Stayed there till he quit singing which was about 11 pm. It is 9 hours ahead of California timezone. Didn't change me watch so got to practice some math. Got to bed about there midnight.. My friends have a time share and had a two bedroom, so it was really nice, would have settled on the couch to be there.

The next morning still no luggage so borrowed a top. We went to a market that had so much of everything from spain and not from spain.. Took the bus there and walked around and got some things to send to family and for myself as well. We decided to walk towards the coast and ended up walking all the way back to the Hotel. Figured out that it was about 20 K to get back... it wasn't a fast walk, we were gone about 9 hours totoal. The sight was beautiful there were also stores that was at the boardwalks wanting to sell you something. the stores and little food placed wasn't much more that 20 feet with a little fence and another one, and thats the way they have it. They even had a few sand art people and I took pictures of them too. Have seen that from E mails but never in person. It was a beautiful walk, took pictures of alot of stuff and the clouds. It was cold there and stormy. Only had a few hours ( not at one time) of sun peaking out of the clouds the whole week I was there. Its was still nice to be there anyway.

On the days that we couldn't get out, the Hotel had activities to do if you wanted to get out of your rooms. I shouldn't say rooms, cuz they were little apartments, with kitchens. got to play darts, pool, bingo, and sjoelen. not sure how to discribe the last game but took pict. and instructions. and if you won you got a ticket for a refreshment at the hotle dinning room. or a bottle of wine if you blackedout on bingo. The Bingo was not the normal as we all know. Maybe will have one next time I get to some of family and friends in the furture. Also got to see a couple more entertainers at the Hotel, they were not as good the the guy the first nite I was there.

still around

Well as some of you know it is still raining, not every day or night but enough for the ground not to dry out. So needless to say No Yardwork is being done yet. Maybe staying into March will bring some sunshine and make it easier to get the yard done.

Had some Dr. apts. the last couple weeks and the good news is, its treatable... had some small cancer spots removed. Thats what all the sun in my teen years did to me. But keeping an eye on any other possibles. The UC Davis has been wonderful and getting me in to see a Dr. really quick.

Getting more excited about my trip to Spain next week. Whoops I let the cat out of the bag without getting more guesses to where I'm goin. Ill only be gone a week. I know its not long time for such a long tip, but will have more time to plan on any others trips and stay longer.

I did get some insalation put in my cupboards to ward off the cold and the heat in the summer. It seems to have helped with the temp. in the whole place. Should have had it when I was in KS. when it was 12 below 0. Live and learn or better late than never, or any other saying.

Just got back from goin out with family to a buffett place. And yes I had more than I needed, but it sure was good. Luckely we went early so I have time for it to digest before bedtime.

Won't be blogging until I get back from my trip and then I'll have something interesting to type about. Maybe some pictures if I can figure out how to do it. Till next time C

not floating away

I saved some money by not having to buy a big intertube to put around my RV to keep from floating away.. ha ha !! we still had alot of rain sence my last blog. Didn't get any yard work done yet, lots of rain then mud so hopefully will get some needed drainage problems fixed before trying to improve the yard.
Went to dinner at my Uncle and Aunts house. She made home made taco's. and a week before she made another mexican supper. Love her cooking.. got to see some of their kids, that hadn't seen in a couple years.
Met with some of my classmates from High School and got to have lunch and some good visiting done. Its good catching up with friends you knew in school so many years ago. Also got to have a good visit with a couple more classmates on other days. Today spent some time with a cuzzin at the Cal Expo Fair Grounds at a Home and Garden show. Sure did alot of walking to finally find the Garden stuff. Looked at some plants and stones that would go good in the yard. but still have to find a good day with the labor on same day to make it happen.... was invited out to dinner tonight with one of my Aunts and a few of her kids for pizza and beer. Good visit and good to see them again.
It seems that all Ive wrote about this time is eating.. Oh well, you have to eat everyday to stay alive and well and if you can get someone else to cook it or go to a resterant, then thats the best.
I have been getting ready to go on a trip across the sea's. Really excited about it and wondering what to take and not take. Anyone want to guess where I will be goin. and the people that Ive talked to don't count. till next time

Guess What

Hello All.

I didn't forget to blog. just been a little busy. Had a great New Years. Did stay up past midnight to witness the ball drop every hour, starting with east coast time.. Went to spent a few day with another aunt of mine, went to one of her son's for New years and snacked and watched a movie. The next day visited another son of her's and then saw her daughter as well a couple days later. We did have time to veg and practice on her computer that she just got a few month ago.

Got back to where my parents lived and am trying to figure out what to do with the yard to make it easier to take care of. Got a few things done, but then GOD decided that California needed some weather. Talking alot of wet weather...... So decided to leave again to spend a few day watching it rain with a cuzzin. It was a good visit and we got alot of girl talk done. Her kids came over for dinner so got to see them as well. We didn't go anywhere, just vegged while the rain came down. I know what your thinking! she sure does alot of VEGGING!!!!!

Back to my little home and just rockin and rollin. Brought the slideouts IN and im still rockin and rollin. Only getting some music over the satelite, but a good signal to keep in touch through the comp. Cancelled a luncheon with a classmate, due to the weather, but have that resceduled so just trying to get in house stuff done.

I have a oppertunity to travel to spain, YESSSSS Spain.
